TusnadEcoBear – Four Pillars for Human–Bear Coexistence

The TusnadEcoBear initiative was launched in 2022 in Băile Tușnad with the aim of bringing a new perspective on the relationship between humans and bears. The project is built on four key pillars – Watch, Cave, Fest, and Conf – each offering a different way to help communities better understand bears and learn how to live peacefully alongside them.
  • TusnadEcoBear Watch
An interactive mobile app that allows locals and tourists to report bear sightings. The data collected supports the work of the local intervention team and increases safety.

  • TusnadEcoBear Cave
A visitor and educational center where children and adults can learn about bears’ lives, diet, and coexistence challenges through playful and interactive tools.

  • TusnadEcoBear Fest
A thematic festival that attracts families and children, raising awareness about coexistence with bears through fun activities and shared experiences.

  • TusnadEcoBear Conf
A scientific conference that uniquely provides a moderated platform where experts, decision-makers, and the public can discuss key issues and solutions together.

  • Together, these four pillars strengthen one another, enabling local communities, tourists, and european professionals to learn, share experiences, and work hand in hand to create sustainable solutions for human–bear coexistence.
