ECODESTINATION

From 01.08. 2023, the Association Cutia de Proiecte – Project Bag became the Destination Management Unit (DMU) taking over the management of the ecotourism destination Băile Tușnad and its Surroundings, including the Natura 2000 site of the Lower Ciuc Basin with the overlapping botanical reserves, the Natura 2000 site and the nature reserves of Lake Saint Ann (Sfânta Ana) and Mohoș Bog, the Piatra Șoimilor Nature Reserve, the town of Băile Tușnad and the communes of Tușnad, Cozmeni, Sânsimion, Sântimbru, Sâncrăieni.

This initiative is launched within the program “Green Entrepreneurship 4.0 – Development of ecotourism destinations in Romania”, a project through which we want to “Attract active tourists in the ecotourism destination Băile Tușnad and its Surroundings”.

Through the implementation of the proposed activities, we hope that at the end of the project we will have an ecotourism destination with improved functionality and sustainability, which will attract and satisfy the need for knowledge and experience of the active and responsible tourist segment and contribute in the long term to the conservation and sustainable use of the natural and cultural heritage of the destination. At the same time we want a DMU with improved, even independent, financial sustainability.

Through the proposed objectives and activities, the main results generated will be:
  • Better organisational capacity of the DMU and greater assurance of the sustainability of the ecotourism destination development initiative and conservation actions – Strengthening of the partnership through better collaboration between entities (local government authorities, non-governmental organisations, tourism service providers) and better coordination of this approach by the DMU. In order to ensure the sustainability of the initiative and the conservation actions through the project, specific activities will be carried out such as fundraising campaigns; awareness raising actions at destination level; development of the business model for the DMU.

  • Develop/improve the network of quality ecotourism services at destination level – we aim to develop/improve the experience-based approach that combines and enhances the natural and cultural resources of the destination. For the development/improvement of the ecotourism services network, several thematic meetings will be initiated, in which the members of the partnership and other specialists will participate, depending on the topics addressed.

  • Increase the number of active and responsible tourists through a unified promotion of the destination – this will be achieved through continued participation in tourism fairs and other events, organisation of events/festivals, online promotion and marketing, production and dissemination of promotional materials.

By the nature of the partnership approach and joint effort the project will have long-term impact in the following major areas:
  • Strengthening and developing the destination’s unique image/brand

  • Sustainable destination development

  • Developing the destination’s local economy

The development of the ecotourism destination Băile Tușnad and its Surroundings is financially supported by the “Green Entrepreneurship 4.0 – Development of ecotourism destinations in Romania” program, a joint program of the Romanian – American Foundation and the Enviromental Partnership Foundation.
